Managing Segments

Open a segment from the Contacts page to see who currently matches it and to work on it. The segment page carries the name, the count, the refresh detail and a searchable table of matching contacts, described in Segments.

Editing a Segment​

Both the name and the conditions can be changed. Editing reopens the builder with the current values, and the conditions are laid out exactly as they were saved. See Building a Segment for how the groups and conditions work.

Changing the conditions changes who the segment matches, and every campaign pointed at that segment inherits the change. Check which campaigns use it before saving, and narrow the conditions on a duplicate instead if only one campaign needs the different targeting.

Duplicating a Segment​

Duplicate prefills the builder with a copy of the segment, named Copy Of the original and carrying the same conditions. Rename it and adjust the conditions before saving. This is the quickest way to produce a variant of a segment that already works, such as the same targeting narrowed to one region.

Exporting a Segment​

Export CSV downloads the contacts currently matching the segment. The data is refreshed before the file is produced, so an export reflects the segment as it stands rather than as it stood at the last scheduled refresh. See Refreshing a Segment.

Deleting a Segment​

The delete confirmation lists the campaigns that use the segment, so the impact is visible before it is confirmed. Where no campaign uses it, that panel is not shown.

After a segment is deleted:

  • it can no longer be selected as the audience for a new campaign
  • it stays available to campaigns that already reference it, so those campaigns keep showing it rather than losing their audience silently
  • a campaign that references it cannot be saved or finished until the audience is changed
  • a run that references it fails to start, covered in Starting a Run

Deleting a segment does not delete the contacts in it. Only the saved conditions go.

A segment can also disappear without being deleted from this page. Deleting a custom field removes every segment condition built on that field, and a segment left with no conditions at all goes with it. See Deleting a Custom Field.
