Creating a Brand
Select Create Brand on the Brands page to open the form. The form has two parts: the details that identify the brand in the list, and the content it applies to a template.
Brand Details
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Brand Name | Identifies the brand wherever it is offered, so name it after the identity it represents rather than the campaign that first needed it, for example "ACME Billing". |
| Brand Description | A short summary shown in the Brands list to tell similar brands apart. |
| Brand Type | Either SMS or Email. |
Choose the type first. It decides which fields appear under Brand Content, and it decides which templates the brand is offered on: an SMS brand is offered on SMS templates only, and an email brand on email templates only. The type cannot be changed once the brand is saved, so a brand created on the wrong channel has to be created again on the right one.
Brand Content for Email
An email brand holds the addresses the message is sent and replied to from, and the content that wraps the template body.
| Field | Holds |
|---|---|
| From | The address recipients see the email come from. |
| Reply To | The address a recipient's reply is directed to. |
| Email Header | Content added to the start of the template content. |
| Email Footer | Content added to the end of the template content. |
From and Reply To offer verified senders only. If an address is missing from either list, it has not been verified yet: see Domains and Senders for how an Org Admin adds and verifies one.
A header and a footer usually carry the parts of an email that stay the same across campaigns, such as a masthead, a postal address or contact details. Both can include variables, which resolve per recipient in the same way as the rest of the template. See Variables and Defaults.
Brand Content for SMS
An SMS brand holds:
- A Sender, the number or sender ID the message goes out from.
- A Footer, plain text added to the end of the template content. Opt-out wording is the common use.
An SMS sender only takes effect when the organisation's sender strategy lets a sender be set per message. Under the sender pool strategy an SMS brand that holds nothing but a sender adds nothing to the template, and the editor says so when the brand is selected. See Senders and SMS Senders.
Headers and Footers
A header goes at the start of the template content and a footer goes at the end. Neither replaces anything the template already has, and neither is edited from the template: the wording lives on the brand, so changing it there changes it everywhere the brand is applied.
Leave a field empty if the brand should not govern it. A brand with a footer and no sender applies its footer and leaves the sender to whoever builds the template, which is covered in Applying a Brand.
